Mears Furniture: some issues
John would like to think that his company's investment give them a
competitive
advantage, which means that he can offer a better service to his customers -
but he isn't sure. He has some concerns about the growing IT
infrastructure, specifically:
- Dave seems to be spending a few hours each week working
on
PC problems and that takes him away from actually delivering the furniture,
which is what is what John originally employed him for.
- When Dave is out of the office, either delivering or on
holiday, the office is exposed to any IT problems which may arise.
- John is worried about backups. The PCs. have important
documents on, such as quotes and delivery notes, and John is concerned that
PC
problems may result in lost data. There are floppy disks in a cabinet
which are supposed to be updated daily, but John knows that they are not. If
there were a fire or flood in his building he is worried that he could lose
both the PCs and his backups.
